Finalist proposal - Montreal Holocaust Museum
Finalist proposal in the international competition for the new Montreal Holocaust Museum (MHM). The project designed by Pelletier de Fontenay + NEUF architect(e)s celebrates the resilience of an entire people and the universal character of life through architecture that contrasts between light and dark and the transitions between public and private.
Behind a shimmering façade composed of thousands of glass shards, a memorial garden invites passersby to step inside for a contemplative and sensory experience. Simple lines and raw materials characterize the purity of the project whose name, Chai, means «life», «living» or «alive» in Hebrew.
